Entries for 2014 Greater Manchester Marathon now open

Entries for the 2014 Greater Manchester Marathon are now open

Following last week’s launch event, registration for the 2014 Greater Manchester Marathon, which will take place on Sunday 6th April, is now open.

The race organisers of the Greater Manchester Marathon reintroduced the event in 2012 after a decade’s absence, and based on the continuous growth and popularity, this year’s race’s capacity is set at 10,000 places. Using the same flat route as in 2013, the start, finish and race village will be at Manchester United Football Club in Old Trafford.

The route has an elevation gain of around only 54 m, meaning that it can boast the flattest, fastest marathon route in the UK, attracting runners of all levels after having established itself as a unique race not to miss in the running calendar.

A new addition to the 2014 race is the ‘Half/Half’ Relay, which allows two runners to share the marathon distance between them and opens the race up to half marathon runners who want to be a part of this iconic race, run their first half marathon in Manchester or use it as a training ground for marathons later in the season. The ‘Four Leg’ Relay where teams of four run the 26.2 miles between them also takes place again, attracting corporate teams or friends who want to experience the race atmosphere without running the full marathon distance.

Race Director Simon Hill commented: “We are excited to be launching the Greater Manchester Marathon 2014 and to open registration today. The race’s reputation as not only the flattest and fastest but also one of the friendliest marathon with outstanding crowd support is growing rapidly, and I would like to thank everyone who has been supporting the Greater Manchester Marathon over the last couple of years.”

Official charities announced so far include Cancer Research UK and Help a Capital Child (HACC) with Virgin Money Giving as the Official Charity Fundraising Partner.

Early bird entry fees, available until 30th September, are £42.95 for affiliated runners, £44.95 for non-affiliated runners and £44.95 for wheelchair entries. Relay entry for ‘Half/Half’ teams costs £75 per team or £120 for ‘Four Leg’ relay teams. All finishers receive a medal as well as a fantastic goodie bag.
